Santiago de La Ribera (San Javier)
LA HITA BEACH Between Santiago de la Ribera and the neighbouring town of Los Alcázares you will find De La Hita Beach. Its origin comes from former salt flats, which stand out for their rich coastal vegetation, and is home to small wetlands where you can find liveforever specimens, characteristic for its resistance to extreme temperatures. Being a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) by the European Union, you should wear binoculars to observe the resident bird population, as in the case of the pink-legged wading bird called small stork or the little tern, a curious species with a pointed beak and black feathers on its head.
