Santiago de La Ribera (San Javier)
Located 4.7 miles from the Los Alcázares marina and 1.3 miles from Lo Pagán pier. Consists of an 80m-long fixed jetty with a 60m extension in the shape of a T. History: The Royal Sailing Club was born in 1918 from the enthusiasm of individuals who were in love with the sea and water sports. These were people who enjoyed swimming, bathing, and sailing in the warm waters of the Mar Menor. Initailly, the vessels of that time, Marconi boats and Latin sailboats, set sail daily to the beaches of Los Arenales and La Manga. On their return, authentic compettions were held among them. Shortly afterward, the competitions formalized, giving rise to the Instructive Sailing Club. Over time, it was granted the title of Royal Sailing Club. The aspiring sailors got hold of the plans for a boat designed by William Crosby called the Snipe (the English name for the snipe bird, which symbolizes these boats at the top of their sail). The best carpenters in the area, enouraged by the sailors, got to work, leading to the creation, in our Club, of the VI Snipe Fleet in Spain. Soon after, the initiation classes Cadet and Optitmist joined the Club fleet, where members were trained and achieved a brilliant track record. To date, our sailors have represented Spain in two Olympics and have participated, and even won, several World Championships and numerous Spanish Championships in different categories. The Real Club de Regatas de Santiago de la Ribera has organized world, continental championships in various dinghy sailing classes, making it recognized nationally and internationally as a reference in sailing.
