BROCHURE VÍA VERDE DE LA FLORACIÓN DE CIEZA
It begins in the reception area of La Corredera, where the new variant of Camarillas separates from the old railway. From Cieza you can reach this point by taking the initial section of Chicharra-Cieza Greenway, and then, after passing over the A-30 motorway, by the signposted Connection Itinerary between Greenways of about 3.5 km.
The greenway ascends gently to the old La Macetúa Station, about 4 km away, and in whose surroundings a rest area has been set up. This station oered service mainly to the workers of the farms located in this area, such as La Campana, La Esperanza, La Carrichosa or La Macetúa.
Opposite the station, on top of a small hill, is located the viewpoint of La Macetúa, one of the best places to get a wide view of the fields in bloom and the landscape. To the north you can see the Sierra de Cabeza del Asno, and to the south the spectacular mount of Almorchón.
A kilometer later, the track passes over the bridge over the El Galán ravine. Along the way there are some level crossings, water wells or abandoned guardhouses. However, there is no trace of the old Puerto Herrado halt, which was located around kilometer 8.4 of the route.
The Greenway ends, after almost 10 km, in the reception area of Las Cañadas, where the train tracks continue towards the Calasparra Station. From this point you can take a path that connects (after crossing the RM-714 road with special care and attention) with the El Picarcho Ecotourism Route, which takes us back to the Chicharra-Cieza Greenway, completing an attractive circular route. of almost 40 km.
Cieza
Its privileged location next to the Segura River and the good climate favored human presence since prehistoric times. The Levantine cave paintings of the cave-chasm of La Serreta and the shelters of the Los Grajos ravine are
declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
In the Middle Ages, the city of Medina Siyâsa, the largest Muslim settlement known in Spain, was installed on the hill of El Castillo, whose archaeological remains can be partially visited. With the conquest of the Castilians, Cieza gained strategic importance. King Alfonso X 'The Wise' handed it over in 1281 to the Order of Santiago.
Cieza, North Gate of the Region of Murcia, currently has about 35,000 inhabitants and is the natural capital of the Vega Alta del Segura region. It has numerous museums (Siyâsa, Molino de Teodoro, Esparto, Holy Week, Folklore)
and monuments and points of interest (Basilica de la Asunción, Convento de San Joaquín, Ermita de San Bartolomé, Mercado de Abastos, Ermita del Santo Cristo, Balcón del Muro, acequia de la Andelma). Its festivals are
also well known (Holy Week, Festivals of the Shield) and the activities linked to the Flowering of Cieza.
Surrounded by mountains and bathed by the Segura River, it also oers the possibility of active and adventure tourism activities (river descent, via ferrata, canyoning, hiking, mountain biking, climbing) and several routes (Rock Art,
Islamic, Flowering , Bethlehem, Urban, Three Hermitages, Singular Trees).
The Flowering of Cieza
At the end of winter there is a visual spectacle of flowering that attracts thousands of tourists to visit the fields of Cieza. Unlike other places, where there is only one type of tree, in Cieza there is a great variety: most are peach trees, but there are also plum, almond, apricot, paraguayo or nectarine trees, which bloom more or less at the same time.
As each tree has its kind of flower, the field presents a tapestry of multiple tones: the pinkish and red colors
belong to the peach trees, depending on their variety; mixing with the white of the plum and almond tree, and the
pink of the apricot tree, and the green of the fruit trees already in bloom.
Although the flowering can be seen from many places, in the surroundings of the RM-B19 road, which connects Cieza
with Calasparra, the widest landscapes in bloom can be found.
Viewpoints have been set up in dierent areas of the municipality to contemplate this explosion of nature.
In addition to the aforementioned La Macetúa (next to the Vía Verde de la Floración de Cieza), we can highlight those
of El Olmico (the closest to the city), La Torre (on the other side of the Segura river) and El Soto de la Zarzuela .
Next to the latter is the Flowering Visitor Reception Center, in an old restored rural school, which opens its doors during the weeks that the flowering period lasts and has a rest area, toilets, an exhibition and a guided tour service.
