Cieza, History on the Banks of the Segura
To walk through the old town, strolling down its cobbled streets, is to discover the most remote origins of today's Cieza, savoring the medieval flavor that still infuses some of its most intricate and narrowest streets, finding important buildings full of history along one's way. The town's historic center is dotted with noteworthy civil and religious buildings that have been direct witnesses to and protagonists of the municipality's history, both distant and recent. This route offers us a classic guided tour of the most significant monuments in Cieza's historic center. The Mercado de Abastos (Supply Market), Monasterio de la Inmaculada Concepción, Balcón del Muro (overlook), Ermita de San Bartolomé (Hermitage of St. Bartholomew), Plaza Mayor (Main Square), Esquina del Convento ("Corner of the Convent") and Paseo (promenade) are all part of the tour.
We also delve into the town's past with a visit to the Siyâsa Museum, which preserves and exhibits archaeological remains from the different cultures that have been found in the municipality of Cieza, with special attention to the al-Andalus period, represented at the Islamic site of Siyâsa.
The Casa-Museo de la Semana Santa (Holy Week House/Museum) showcases an important part of the Confraternities of Cieza's Holy Week and their heritage, as well as a good number of thrones and images that are paraded in the town's processions, declared of National Touristic Interest.
