Águilas is a modern city nurtured by the Enlightenment thought of Carlos III and his ministers Aranda and Floridablanca in the 18th century. Its historic center, featuring wide, parallel and rectilinear lines, is a perfect reflection of the sensibilities of the city's architects and developers during this era. In the history of Águilas the 19th century was a heyday for the local economy, as wealth generated by the mines fueled the construction of most of center's the most emblematic buildings.
Admission to the Castle: students, children and retirees are free. Adults: 2 euros. Groups of more than 8 people: 1 euro. Closed on Mondays. Except on holidays, long weekends, and in July and August.
