Route:

Glorieta de España (City Square), Plaza Cardenal Belluga, Plaza de los Apóstoles, Calle Oliver, Plaza Hernández Amorós, Calle Trapería, visiting the Casino. We continue on to the Plaza Santo Domingo (St. Dominic Square) and Paseo Alfonso X (promenade), with the Convento de Las Anas ("The Annes") and Convento de Las Claras (Poor Clares); normally, we only visit the exteriors of both.

The Essence of Murcia

The capital of the Region boasts a beacon that has powerfully drawn visitors for more than 200 years: its irresistible Cathedral, featuring a Baroque 'canvas' in the heart of the old town, on Islamic foundations, and adorned with Gothic and Renaissance chapels that seduce travelers without them even realizing it, such is the harmony of the combination.

Our route begins by the river, next to the neoclassical Ayuntamiento (City Hall). After saluting the veritable architect of Baroque Murcia, Cardinal Belluga, we will delve into its narrow Moorish streets, always hungry for shade. Then, after enjoying its Cathedral, both outside and in (contingent upon its liturgical use), we head for the elegant casino, where we linger, enjoying its rooms' splendid, wide-ranging eclecticism.

Finally, we explore the convent center, with facilities belonging to the Dominicans, the Poor Clares and the Sisters of St. Anne, beautiful places of devotion reflecting a time, now almost vanished, when contemplative seclusion was considered a virtue to be cultivated.

Tickets: Cathedral, 5 euros. 4 euros for groups
