LIVE LORCA!
A border town of very ancient origins, taking us back to the Argaric era. Our visit begins at the Visitors Center, where a painting of the "city of 100 coats of arms" will begin to give us a picture of this place and its history.
In one of these palaces is the city's archaeological museum, into which we will delve to discover its origins.
The streets, lined with the houses of nobles and palaces, speak to us of its past as a borderland at a time when great lords discovered fertile and rich lands here. The Palacio de Guevara and the Palacio de los Condes de San Julián (Counts of St. Julian) flank the Iglesia de San Mateo (Church of St. Matthew), an old Jesuit church, and the Centro Regional de Artesanía (Regional Craft Center), where you¿ll learn not only about the artisanal products that are made there, but also about their gastronomy.
The Calle Corredera is the city's central axis, and during our walk it will take us to the Plaza de España, where the civil and religious powers are represented at the town hall, and its most impressive church, the magnificent Ex Colegiata de San Patricia (Former Collegiate Church of St. Patrick), whose interior we will visit, with both monuments evoking the city of Lorca's importance, past and present.
Admission: Antigua Colegiata de San Patricio (Former Collegiate Church of St. Patrick) (3¤ general admission / 2.5¤ reduced rate). Optional visit / Palacio de Guevara (5 euros)
