Route

Plaza Belluga, Plaza Apóstoles, Calle San Antonio to the Plaza Santa Eulalia, where we will visit the Centro de Visitantes Muralla de Santa Eulalia (St. Eulalia Wall Visitors Center). After this visit we will head for the Calle Rambla, and Calle Saavedra Fajardo, and briefly discuss the Iglesia de la Mercedes (Church of Mercy) and the Universidad de Murcia (Facultad de Derecho) (the University of Murcia and its Law School). Taking the Calle Merced, we reach the Plaza de Santo Domingo, and then it's on to the Gran Vía Alfonso X El Sabio, where we find the Museo de Santa Clara la Real (St. Clare of Assisi Museum). From here we direct our steps along the Calle Santa Clara, crossing the Gran Vía Salzillo until we reach the Calle Portillo de San Antonio, next to which we find the medieval quarter of La Arrixaca. We then continue our tour crossing the Plaza de Santa Catalina y de las Flores to reach the section of defensive wall known as the Muralla de Verónicas, next to the market of the same name. Finally, we cross the Calle Pintor Sobejano to visit the start of El Malecón (promenade), cross the Pasarela de Manterola (footbridge), and take in the beautiful sight of the river with its dam, and Puente Viejo (Old Bridge), with the Cathedral in the background. We can finish our visit here or, if circumstances allow, walk alongside the visitors, crossing the Old Bridge until we reach La Glorieta de España, the city square.

Madinat Mursiya and the Treaty of Orihuela

On this tour we'll learn about the origins of the city of Murcia, founded and fortified under the rule of Abderraman II. The massive medieval walls will guide us to the Santa Eulalia district and into the Centro de Visitantes Muralla de Santa Eulalia (St. Eulalia Wall Visitors Center).

On our walk we will pass through the different sections of this well-fortified and unassailable city until we reach the Museo de Santa Clara la Real (St. Clare of Assisi Museum), where the nuns who inhabit it share the space not just with its large collection of religious art, but also the 13th-century archaeological remnants of a Houthi palace. An essential visit to immerse yourself in the city's Arab past.

We'll then move on to the La Arrixaca quarter, a medieval district in the process of being excavated and where you'll learn about the city's structure and way of life through its recently discovered archaeological remains.

We'll conclude this tour reaching the only section of the 12th-century wall that is preserved in the open air, next to the Mercado de Verónicas (Market). The route will end just a few steps from these medieval vestiges, after passing along the Malecón (promenade), with views of the Segura River, with its Moorish dam, Puente de los Peligros (Bridge of Dangers), and modern Pasarela de Manterola (footbridge).

Admission to the Centros de Santa Eulalia (Centers) and the Las Claras Museum (both free for those with reservations)
