The starting point for the route is the Wine Museum, which is located in what was once one of the largest and most productive traditional bodegas in the old Kingdom of Murcia. The building dates back to the early 19th Century and originally used to belong to one of the richest and most influential families in the district, the Melgares de Aguilar.
After visiting the museum, the route continues with one of the wineries that are part of the Wine Route.
After finding out a little more about the history of the chosen winery, it is off for lunch at one of the Bullas Wine Route restaurants.
Afterwards, highlights of a walk around Bullas old town include the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Church; the Casa de los Melgares, a modernist building from 1925 that is home to today's Casa de Cultura cultural centre; and the Monument to the Wine Grower, a bronze sculpture by Rafael Pi Belda that depicts grape treading and serves as homage to all those who have contributed to forging the culture of wine in this area.
The day finishes with a visit to the D. Pepe Marsilla House and Museum, a predominantly modernist style nobleman's mansion converted into a museum that recreates local life in around 1900. Inside, both the modernist style décor of the residential part of the property and the various rooms that made up the working area are in a perfect state of conservation. In the wine cellar, the area used for the production of wine for sale and that set aside for storing the finest vintages for personal consumption can be seen.
